Artists within a thirty mile radius of New Marlborough MA

The New Marlborough Meeting House Gallery would like to invite you to apply for our juried show AS THE CROW FLIES. This show seeks artists within a thirty mile radius of New Marlborough, MA to submit up to five works created within the past three years by May 20 that bear witness to their practice. This years jurors are Em Rooney and Chris Domenick.

ABOUT THE JURORS
Em Rooney  (b. 1983, U.S.) lives and works between New York City and Great Barrington, MA. Recent solo exhibitions include François Ghebaly, Los Angeles (2020-2021); Fons Welters, Amsterdam (2019); Bodega, New York (2018 & 2016); and Beeler Gallery at The Columbus College of Art and Design, Columbus, OH (2016). Recent group exhibitions include François Ghebaly, Los Angeles (2019); Kaviar Factory, Henningsvaer, Norway (2019); Adams & Ollman, Portland, OR (2019); Galerie Crèvecoeur, Paris (2018); Foxy Production, New York (2018), The Museum of Modern Art, New York (2018); Document, Chicago (2018); and Simone Subal (2017). Her work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Frieze, Artforum, Aperture Magazine, i-D, Art in America, and Artnews, among others. Rooney will have her third solo exhibition at Bodega, New York in early 2022.

Chris Domenick is an interdisciplinary artist working in painting, sculpture, drawing, and writing.  His work explores the poetics of materiality and craft, often engaged with vernacular forms of architecture, design, and the decorative arts.  He utilizes abstraction as a means to examine the semantics of surface, shape, and touch.  Domenick received an MFA from Hunter College and has received awards from various institutions including The Shandaken Project, The Sharpe-Walentas Space Program, Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and Recess Activities.  Recent projects include Song-shaped Sill at The Al Held Foundation, Flat Moon at Kate Werble Gallery, Particulate Paper Records of Time in Cabinet Magazine and 5 O D A Y S at MASSMoCA.  He has been included in exhibitions at Canada Gallery, The Queens Museum, Skibum MacArthur, The Vanity East, MOMA, Essex Flowers, Situations, Regina Rex, and Room East, among others.  He currently co-curates the project space GERTRUDE in Stockbridge, MA with Em Rooney.  

ELIGIBILITY
This art show is open to all artists working in all mediums, living within a 30-mile radius of the Gallery.

SUBMISSION PROCESS + GUIDELINES
Using the Dropbox provided, each artist must submit one folder containing the following:

  1. High resolution image of up to five artworks. 
    -Label each image LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_TITLE_DIMENSIONS
    Example: Smith_Anna_Morning Light_ 12 x 24 inches

  2. Title
    Size/dimensions
    Medium
    Price
    Year created 

  3. Artist Statement + Biography combined onto one page - no longer than one page.
    Short bio/artist statement will be used in binder on display for the duration of the show and may be used for advertising.

  4. A photo of yourself/headshot and/or you working in your studio.

  • All artwork should be ready to hang or to be displayed if it is three-dimensional.

  • Only original fine artworks completed within the last three years, which have not been previously shown at the gallery, will be accepted. Copies and reproductions will not be accepted (no giclée or offset printed work) in the exhibition.

  • Artwork to be hung on walls should be no larger than 70” including frame. 

  • All 2-D Artwork should be ready to hang with suitable wire. No double saw tooth hangers-- artwork will not be accepted/displayed. If the hanging mechanism is missing or nonfunctional the work will not be hung. Please make sure that your hanging device is securely attached.

  • Sculptures for podiums should have a base no larger than 10” x 10” and not exceed 30” in any direction. If sculpture is intended for the ground it cannot exceed 30” in any direction.

  • Artwork cannot exceed 50 pounds.

  • Artwork can be any medium.

  • Entries requiring unusual installation require prior approval from The New Marlborough Meeting House Gallery. To ensure proper installation of non-traditional works, The New Marlborough Meeting House Gallery may require the assistance of the artist. The New Marlborough Meeting House Gallery retains the final decision regarding works to be exhibited.

  • Artwork that is for sale will have a 20/80 split for works sold, 80% going to the artist.

LIABILITY

  • Artists are responsible for hand delivery of work to and from exhibition by the designated dates and times. New Marlborough Meeting House Gallery is not responsible for artwork remaining after pick-up dates and becomes property of NMNH to sell or dispose of.

  • Due to the nature of the gallery being a community space, accepted artists should expect to fill two 4 hour shifts of sitting at the gallery. GALLERY HOURS: Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11 - 4.

  • The New Marlborough Meeting House will take every precaution against damage/theft, etc. of artwork, but will not be responsible for damage/loss whatever the cause. We strongly encourage artists to hold insurance on their artwork against loss or damage.

  • Accepted artwork will need a signed agreement/contract and inventory. All accepted work must remain in the exhibition for its duration. 

  • The New Marlborough Meeting House reserves the right to photograph and reproduce images for publicity purposes.
