In 1933 John Jacob Niles composed a folk hymn inspired by a girl named Annie Morgan titled “I Wonder as I Wander.” Waiting in a train station, he noticed an impoverished girl (Annie) out on the platform singing this fragmented sentence over and over for spare change.
The Meeting House Gallery invites you to our juried show THE WONDER IN THE WANDER in September. This show features emerging artists under 40 whose works bear witness to where they have wandered, internally or externally, and how that has nurtured a sense of wonder. This concept is also inspired by “Yugen,” the Japanese concept that describes an awareness of the universe that triggers an emotional response too deep and powerful for words. This concept beautifully bridges our external observations with our internal ones.
