Regular public performances at the Meeting House began in 1991, organized by concert pianist and arts administrator Harold Lewin (1929-2014). The early concerts were a classical music fundraiser for the building, which was in need of substantial repairs including the belfry/cupola, a new roof, a paint job, as well as less critical renovations. In only a few years, the series expanded to include a significant literary component. The title of the series underwent several iterations, starting with “Music for the Meeting House” then “Music (& More) for the Meeting House,” and more recently, “Music and More.”

Musical performers have ranged from prominent Berkshire artists to others with international reputations in a variety of genres. Highlights include:

Pianists:  Harold Lewin, Simone Dinnerstein, Gilles Vonsattel
String Quartets:  Shanghai, Daedalus, Manhattan, Escher
Early Music: Calliope Renaissance Band, Kenneth Cooper, TENET Vocal Artists, The Sebastians
Jazz and Standards: Bill Crofut, Karen Akers, Paul Green.

More Highlights of Music and More: National Marionette Theater, Tanglewood Marionettes, Berkshire Children’s Chorus, silent movie with live piano accompaniment, Jim Fowler and Animal Kingdom (yes, lots of exotic animals on our stage!), filmmaker Doug Trumbull, collaborations with theater luminaries Tina Packer, Kate Maguire, Jonathan Epstein, and others.
